This week it was top of the table clash between the Island and the boys from Korumburra. It promised to be a great game and it certainly lived up to the "match of the round" status. Both teams pumped up and ready to play at their best. There was the normal changes from last week’s team for the Island with the main one being the in form Marcus Wright from senior duties, but a late withdrawal from dependant defender Ben Hamilton, didn't help with team balance.
The first half was tight, desperate footy with neither side giving an inch and at half time there was only a couple of points in it. For the first half of the third quarter the Island boys, up against the breeze, held on to a small lead, but something possessed the opposition and they finished off the quarter with a goal blitz, by kicking six unanswered goals. It was long direct footy and they got the rewards. At three quarter time they lead by 28 points and they let the young doggies know about it. A bit too cocky too early because our boys were not done yet!! Coach Dallinger calmed them down, got them thinking positive, no ranting or raving, just solid support and positive belief in themselves. They played maybe the best quarter of footy this year and with a total team effort they managed six goals , three behinds, to snatch victory in the dying moments.
A great game and didn't the boys enjoy it!! They will take many things from this win, with the main one being "it ain't over till the siren sounds (or is that when the fat lady sings!!) A great team effort with special mention to Marcus Wright, Ben Tester, Darcy Garton, Dean Hewit and Dan Kirby
