An exciting game of u/18 football was played out at the Cowes oval on Saturday. Top of the table Phillip Island played host to second placed Korumburra/ Bena, with the away team coming up with the win by 5 points. It was a fantastic contest all day with neither side giving an inch and it was only a goal kicked in the dying seconds that stole victory from our boys. Some of the goals kicked by both teams were outstanding none better than Johnston's check side kick on the run from what seemed like near the scoreboard, not to be out done from Hewitt's snap from the other pocket and then set shots from the boundary, along way out ,from Blackwell and Dwyer. Sensational stuff from the young bullies. The game was played at great pace and skill, with the oppositions foot skills probably the difference at the end of the day. The centre clearances and tackles were won by the Island which pleased coach Dallinger and we certainly take a lot of positives out of this game. With another top team to play next week, it will be the perfect lead in to the finals when we have another crack at the boys from Korumburra. Hopefully our boys will put this loss in the memory bank, think about where they can improve, control their frustrations and focus that energy into putting into place all they have learnt this year and they will reap the ultimate reward.
