Phillip Island v MDU (Away)

The Islands u/18's travelled out to the picturesque ground at Meeniyan to be greeted with a very muddy ground. Although from the car it looked well grassed, the surface was wet and soft, but made for a bit of fun for our boys. They are used to the carpet like conditions at Cowes, so it was going to be interesting to see how they will cope with the conditions. As expected it was a torrid affair with all players struggling to keep their feet, hold on to the ball and hit targets. The Island pups adapted much better than the opposition and won the game easily. The backline held solid not allowing the boys from MDU to score. The half backline of Pewtress, Kirby and Smith stopped nearly everything that came their way and if the ball got through, Brown, Pluck and Justice mopped up the crumbs. The rovers, Cole and Redmond were under every pack and handled the ball as if a dry day, and up forward , Johnston once again made the most of his chances with 3 goals in difficult conditions for all forwards.
A good win and a lot of fun, with plenty of comments from all the old footballers saying "in their day" that's what the conditions were like ALL the time!! and that it will do them good to get a bit of mud on them. I think jumper cleaners Rod and Sonya Kirby hope that it will never happen again as they are still trying to get the jumpers clean!! Don't tell them we are at Bass this week and the word is that the ground is in worse condition than Meeniyan!
