Phillip Island v Korumburra-Bena (Tarwin)

Phillip Islands thirds played Korumburra-Bena in the second semi final on Saturday at Tarwin. Head to head this year has been even with both games going down to almost the final kick. A great game of U/18 football was expected with the Island pups having a terrific week on the track and coach Dallinger leaving no stone unturned with some excellent video analysis after training on Wednesday night. They went to the game thoroughly prepared and confident of a good effort. The first quarter started with some unusual fumbles which the opposition capitalised on. Goals to Wright (2), Blackwell and Cleeland put the boys in front at the first change, unfortunately that was about it and they were completely outplayed from that moment on. The Korumburra boys were first to the ball, had cleaner possession and delivered the ball to their forwards with long precise kicking. Dallo made plenty of changes but nothing seemed to spark the boys into gear and the opposition gave us a football lesson especially in the second half. The backline tried all day with skipper Tester, Powles and Smith never giving in. Pewtress and Garton were solid with Wright the only on baller that held his own. So a very disappointing result for the Island pups, one that we did not expect, but they have deserved the second chance and l am sure that they will bounce back next week as they are a far better team than they showed in this game. Let’s forget it and move on to next week.
