Reserves - Round 2 (10th April 2010)
Phillip Island v Fish Creek (Away)

Fish Creek Bound

After an impressive win in the first round the magoo’s made their way down to Fish Creek in the first of three away games in a row. Due to many changes in the seniors, the team was struggling to fill the bench prior to the game. Luckily the thirds stuck their hand up and we were able to field a full side.

In the past Fish Creek have struggled to put a competitive team on the park and the side had the feeling that it would go through the motions and win the game of football. It was evident from the beginning that this Fish Creek side had more depth and some strong marking options in the forward line. The Island managed to kick a couple of early goals and each was matched by Fish Creek. Although the Bulldogs had most of the play Fish Creek were more efficient going into the forward line.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs established a handy three goal lead. Goals to Ben Summerfield and Andrew Goyne gave the Island side a bit of breathing space. Spike Fenech was as influential as ever in his first game back for the season and Rob Linford continued to clear the ball at the stoppages.  All in all it felt like the team was in control and would extend their as the game went on.

The third quarter saw a shift in the momentum of the game. Fish creek started to win more of the ball around the ground and had the forwards managed to convert may have found themselves in front at three quarter time. Tim Oke took some telling marks around the ground and Josh Turner provided the team with drive out of the middle.

The Island team held a ten point lead going into the final quarter and needed to keep its composure if it were to win this game. In a seesawing battle the Island managed to prevail by four points. Trav Winder capped off an excellent game by repelling many Fish Creek attacks and ensuring the ball stayed forward of centre. Another to stand up in the last quarter was Paddy in his first official game for the club. Paddy is from Ireland and is trying his hand at footy while he is here. Paddy gathered the ball several times in the last quarter and used the ball well.
