2016 Round 13 Netball vs Tarwin

What a great game, very close all the way to the end. Phillip Island played some great passages of play with Shanae Riley a stand out. There was fantastic passing from Zoe O'Garey, Cienna Tobias and Lexi Walton through the mid court. Ahlee Penry had some great intercepts in the second half and Amelia Crooks and Shanae Riley worked well around the ring.  Ashlee Haringsma, Khiah Egan-Lee had great passes through the centre and Tahlia Mochetti showed great defence in the ring. It was a great game to watch, well done girls!

Final score: PI 17 drew Tarwin 17

After the rain passed, and the sun came out it was good conditions for a feisty netball game. Charli Ross, Finley Dempsey and Maddy Pearsall applied good midcourt pressure and made it less stressful for Cailin Robinson and Maggie Coombs in defence. Emma Felsovary, Lily Robinson and Ashlee Moxey all shot beautifully. A very good match with the ball being contested all over the court. Our girls did well in rough conditions and are pumped for Stony Creek next week.

Best: Cailin Robinson and Lily Robinson

The 50 odd kms down to Tarwin Lower were well used by the learner drivers from Phillip Island. After such a cold week the sun broke out (all be it briefly) as the girls took to the court. The team were really switched on from the start and played a great defensive game- rebounding most of Tarwin's attacks and turning them into point scoring opportunities. A crucial moment in the match was sorted out very quickly and professionally by the ever alert Moze. Disaster averted and the game continued with all girls hitting their straps at the right time of the season. Great to see JUles up and about after last weeks injury. It was the last time the girls will travel down to take on the Sharks and we wish them well in the new league.

Final score: PI 53 def Tarwin 18

Best: Jess Drazzi and Laura Thompson

C Grade

What do you call almost one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history? Phillip Island C grade vs Tarwin. The girls were ready for a win after losing to Tarwin a few weeks ago. With a few players missing this week because they were sun seeking, some superstar under 17s stepped up. And step up they did. All three girls; Chloe, Hayley and Nell were like the three amigos out there, dominating whatever position they played in. They were aptly supported by the rest of the C grade girls. Being 8 goals down at the final break did not deter this determined and passionate group of girls who played one of their best quarters of netball in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately time was not on their side this week and ended up going down by 2 goals in a fierce battle. Credit to all the girls who fought hard until the last whistle and a big thank you to Kate for providing guidance off the court. As the great man Mohammed Ali once said, “[We] figured that if [we] said it enough, [we] would convince the world that [we] really [are] the greatest.” Time to show Stony next week that we are the greatest.

B Grade

The first quarter started off pretty even with the Island girls only up by 2 at quarter time. Breeza, Steph and Maddy passed the ball down the court with high intensity. While Kylie, Naz and Emily defended their little hearts out. Baby G didn't seem to display her usual clumsiness, but Chloe made up for it in her stepping. Mel and Chloe were shooting absolutely amazingly. Overall it ended up being a great win!

A Grade

The girls were excited the sun was out and shining for what was going to be a great match against Tarwin. Having only played them weeks ago the girls knew they needed to start strong in order to maintain a good lead for the entire match and take home the four points. They began the match exactly how they had hoped, breaking many of Tarwin's centre passes early. Defenders Lawri and Tessa were working hard under the ring while Kate, Diddy and Jess were moving the ball down the court quickly and passing into the shooters beautifully. Taylah and Kelly were on fire, shooting goals from all over the ring. It felt like a much closer game then the scoreboard showed, hats off to Tarwin on a great game and we wish you all the best in the new league next year. Well done girls on a great team effort and a fantastic win.
